Create new message from abap editor - no more possible?

I noticed that it's no longer possible to make the ABAP editor create a new message number for me. Before ABAP 740 (I guess), it was possible to leave the message number blank when inserting a message pattern in the abap editor (GUI version). Now I get "enter a valid value" when I try it. Has this feature been busted or am I only unable to find it?

Hi Jörg,

same with me. And I did not find a workaround either. I loved it just to call the message pattern without message number, then searching existing message or create one on the fly. The button to copy the message into the source code has been removed. Shame on SAP!

Quite more workload for the developer.

I'm stiil hoping for a solution, at least an explanation for the change.

Best regards Clemens

My workaround is the following:

- type "message"

- press ctrl+space to activate auto completion

- press tab to select the proposal

- the "ABAP MESSAGE Builder appears

- type in the message id and message type

- press f4 on the number to get the last number

- press ESC to leave the popup

- type in the next free number in the number field

- press return

now you have a complete message directive in your coding.

- double click on the message number - the message will be created.
