sales and operation planning process area

Hi ,

I am new to SAP technology..i am going to work in sales and operation process area.I need an overview or an idea of s&op.can anyone provide me with the brief idea of the process...??????

if possible can anyone say which sap concept we will generally use for this process area (ie) workflow or reports or module pool..etc...........so that i can concentrate more in that concept ...
