Hello,
SAP MAXDB 7.8, Win 2008, backint with Veritas Netbackup used.
Hello,
is there a scenario how to test restore of some data (backed up by backint into 3rd party backupSW) with db still available? Examples what I mean:
- with Oracle, you can restore archived logs without their recovery against db
- with MS SQL, you can restore db backup into alternate database within the same instance
Or, another scenario with Oracle:
- you can create new test datafile in existing db with some data in it and:
- backup it
- delete it
- restore it
This everything without db downtime or users disruption.
Is there something similar possible in SAP MAXDB? I wanna to perform basic data restorability without any service interruption.
Hi Mikulik,
Maxdb is not supporting "data file" backup, restore.
You have to use backup command to do the backup, then the data will be backed up into a medium (not data file format).
By the way when you deleting a data file in maxdb, the to-be-deleted data file's content will be distributed into other database files,
which means the data is always in database.
Best regards,
James
