Change a dimension to a measure

Hi

Is it possible to change a dimension (string) to a measure. I want to use relative value but I understand that I can only do that with a measure or detail object? If so, can you explain the steps involved.

This is not about object type (measure or detail) but depend on the datatype.you can not use relative value function with string data type.even if it convert to measure variable it won't work.

you need to convert data type to number to use relative value function.if all values are numeric then use tonumber function to convert in the number
