Reset Password....?

Hi All,

I need to Reset the Password in Portal . For this I navigated to the,

User Administartion--->Identity Management and then I searched for the User and click on the <b>Reset Password buton</b>.

Is this the right way to do? Send replies.

What happens when the password is Reset? Whether we need to create new password or how can the User Logon with the User ID and password?

Useful answers will be rewarded.

Hello,

Usually USER ADMINISTRATION role is given to ADMINISTRATORS only.

When the END USER wants to change his own password, he can go to PERSONALISE option and change his USER PROFILE(Password...keying in his old and new passwords).

Do u r user has the personalize option on the masthead.

If u have that its very easy to change the password from personalize option.

to have the personalize option add role eu_core_role to u r user.

Hi Manu,

If you have administrator role you can reset password.while resetting it will ask for reason just type some thing reason.After thatgive new password.Thats enough.you'll get password reseted message.

Hi Munu,

When the user administrator clicks on 'Reset Password', the password for the user gets reset. The administrator must configure him another password in that user's profile. After defining a password, the admin has to inform the user so that he can login.

Hi Munu,

Follow the given steps to reset the password for a user:

1)Login to portal

2)Go to <b>User Administration</b> tab

3)Go to <b>Identity Management</b> tab under <b>User Administration</b> tab

4)Type in the <b>User ID</b> of the user whose password you wish to reset, in the search field. Click on <b>Go</b>.

5)The search will return the particular user in the table given below.

6)Click on the button on the leftmost side of the displayed search result showing the user. This will open all the details of the user in the lower pane.

7)There would be a <b>Modify</b> button. Click on it.

8)In the <b>General Information</b> tab of that user, you would have three radio buttons saying <b>Define Initial Password</b>, <b>Generate Password</b>, and <b>Disable Password</b>. By default <b>Define Initial Password</b> is selected. Leave it as it is.

9)There would be two input fields with labels <b>Define Password</b> and <b>Confirm Password</b>. Fill these two fields with the new password.

10)Click on <b>Save</b> button.

11)The new password that you have entered is a temporary password. When that particular user will login using this password for the first time, he will be asked to change the password.

Please note that using the above steps the password of the user who is currently login into portal, can also be changed. When he will log off and login in again, he will be required to enter the new password.

Hi,

Thanks for the reply. I followed the steps , but it is giving <b>"User Authentication Failed"</b> when I logon with the Password given presently.

Plz give the reason ASAP.

There is no reason for this. This is not possible. You cannot go wrong in this....

I just tried the same steps for confirmation sake, and it works perfectly.

You must be going wrong somewhere. Did you follow all the steps as I have mentioned? Are you using EP 7? No this does not make any difference, just that, the steps would be slightly different if you are on EP 6.

Try entering the password again, all I can say is this. Or else, login with administrator account, and try changing the password again for the same user in the same way.

Do let me know what happens...

We are using EP 7.0 only.

What are the rights that we need to have to do this?

Hi munu,

Nothing much, if you have administrator role, that would be enough to reset the password.

I guess you have this role assigned, otherwise you wouldn't be having the User Administration Role.

hi Ankur,

i am using EP 7. i have all the required roles like user Admn, system Admn etc. i wanted to reset the password. i followed the above steps. but when i click save its giving this error msg

"An error occurred; contact your system administrator"

why is it showing this error? Can u help me?

hi

instead of resetting the password click on generate new password

click on modify button and give the password.

then when user log into portal for first time it will prompt ot chnage the password

Hi,

I haven't tried that but think 'Reset password' will reset the password and send mail to the email address of the user. Without doing that, if u want to set a new password u want, u can type in the password and confirm password boxes and save the user details. That will work.
