We are getting ready to do lease replacements on our EP hardware and I am not sure what the best way to do this is for a Java only system.
We run EP version 6.0 SP17, with a heterogeneous landscape. The Database runs on a standalone DB server, HP-IA64, and the Java CI runs on SLES9 32 bit. We are only changing the Java CI and the new servers run SLES10 64-bit.
I would not think a homogeneous system copy would be necessary since we aren't touching the database. Is it enough to copy the whole J2EE server over, then lay down 64-bit binaries? Or should we leave the new server as 32-bit as well, then migrate to 64-bit later on.
This a no brainer for me in the ABAP world, but this is the first time we have had to do this in the Java world.
Thanks for any and all information.
