Phd Vs. SAP consultant carrer (Process Engineer asking)

Dear Forum,

I hope that this is the right place to ask my question. I got a master’s degree in process engineering and am pursuing a PhD right now (since 1 year; 2 to 3 more years to go). Since I learned programming at university I wanted to become a programmer. Anyways I finished my Masters and even started my PhD pretty much because I didn’t know what else to do and how to get a job in programming.

Now I am applying for jobs and I even got an offer from a medium sized company as a SAP consultant/developer. I like what I'm doing at work (programming physics stuff in MATLAB), but for my career goals I don’t need that extra Dr. in front of my Name. Also I live in a city that I don’t enjoy much and moving for me feels like a good idea.

I was wondering if you guys have some advice to a (more or less) young lady (28 years) in this regard. I think that my age is kind of important, since I’m getting older and I feel the need to get going with what I actually want to do. Also I’m wondering if this job offer is a rare chance since I do not have an informatics background but “just” ne in engineering.

Thanks in advance for ideas, thoughts and even perhaps advice.

Holy
