Hi experts.
I work for a bank which wants to replace its legacy, in-house-developed core banking application with a third-party solution.
SAP is among the top 3 vendors being evaluated, since it claims its banking solutions (Loans Management, Deposits Management, Collateral Management... collectively known as SAP for Banking) run on the i5 platform (formerly known as iSeries and AS/400... that is, the DB2 database on the OS/400 operating system).
Do you know of any SAP customer currently using SAP for Banking on i5?
I have looked around the Internet (SAP's, IBM's Web sites, and others) and the closest information I found was a excerpt from Celent's report "Global Core Banking Solutions for Large Banks: The Heart of a Bank" (www.celent.com ) where SAP for Banking appears as being supported on DB2 for OS/400. But I would like to hear about an
actual implementation
on i5. All the other references I find speak about SAP's ERP on i5, not banking.Francisco Solano

Hi Francisco,
most likely you will not be able to find anybody, but at least it will run on i5 as it is a "normal part" of ERP 2005, which is fully supported on i5.
As the banking solution of SAP is not that wide spread right now and i5 is a smaller SAP platform as well, this is not a surprise.
At least, it is possible (and useful) to run this combination if you are satisfied with i5 in your company in general.

Hi Francisco,
I do not exactly know how IS-Banking works..but I am sure its just a addon package( which includes the BC sets and the other cutomizing for the banking industry) , which you import on top of a running ECC/ERP system, just the way you would import Apparel and footwear(AFS) or Hospital package or any other......using SAINT.....
There may be a few conflict resolution transports(CRT's) which u may have to import after/before it....
I do not know personally of any customer doing it..but u can always contact SAP to ask them..or better yet contact your SAP sales rep...
To answer your question...yes it will run on i5(OS400)...
Thanks
ABhi
