Why should we join table directly in SAP ERP instead of BW ?

Hello,

My question should seem stupid for some people but I always ask myself why should we join table in SAP ECC system directly instead of load those tables as they are in BW in order to join them in BW since BW have the ETL functionnality and SAP ECC is only the source.

I refer to Kimball advices.

Hi Marco,

from my point of view it depends on some technical requirements.

1. Less DataSources are more easy to handle in daily business
2. Join data in source systems is actual every time. If you implement a join (lookup) in BW you have to take care that both tables (or ADSOs) are up to date and extracted on the same(!) time. This is critical in Delta Load scenarios. So you have a trigger for delta update from every ADSO that if something is changed a new join is performed (this is not critical if you perform full loads only). If one ADSO is not up to date it results perhaps in wrong data.
