Hi Ross

There are two options of changing the valuation class of material ...Goto tcode MMAM - This tcode is for changing the material type and not valuation class.

If you change the material type in MMAM transaction automatically the valuation class will be changed in material master. The system will take the changed material type valuation class which was created for that material type.

Goto tcode MM02 - Accounting View 1 - This tcode is to change the valuation class directly.

BUttttttt...before doing these changes you have to take care of the following points

If valuated stocks already exist, you can change the valuation class only:

a) Post the stocks of the material to an interim account.

b) Change the valuation class in the material master record.

c) Post the stocks of the material back to their original account.

If open purchase orders already exist, you can only change the valuation class if you first flag the corresponding purchase order items for deletion.

If production orders exist for which a goods movement has already taken place, you can only change the valuation class if you first set the status of the production orders to deleted

Dear sir :

I noted you point c)

If valuated stocks already exist, you can change the valuation class only:

a) Post the stocks of the material to an interim account.

b) Change the valuation class in the material master record.

c) Post the stocks of the material back to their original account.

Does it mean I've create a ROH materrial A and use MMAM to change it to HALB

and then use#561 to post the HALB inventory acctount. It is correct to auto posting to HALB Inventory.

but when I use MR21 to revalue materrial A ,but it post to ROH account.

Is it just meet the situation of c) Post the stocks of the material back to their original account. ?

Would you pls explain the result ? TKS a lot

Hi,

You don't have to change the material type to achieve this and there would be no advantage. If there are errors preventing the valuation class change they will still prevent the change even via the MMAM transaction.

Basically the interim account is simply an account where you can post the value of the materials to temporarily. You then post them back out of the same account when you have changed the valuation class.

try the following,

Try to change the valuation class on the accounting view (with MM02). Then when you get the error message look at the error log (the error button appears at the top of the screen). This will list the problems that you will have to resolve before the change can take place.

let us know what the list shows and we can try to help, but please do be specific.

I am sorry I've made a a misleading description.

this is a situation about when my MM teammember had created the material A of ROH and then use MMAM to correct the material type From ROH to HALB.

The field of Valuation Class in the view of Accounting I was also change to 7900

there are no error message.

Then he created inventory ,the account was corrrectly posting to semi-inventory acctount.

Somehow when I checked the function of MR21 ,I found that the autoposting was error posted to raw material account.

I want to find out the reason and prenvent the error happen again.

Thanks for your kindly help.

Hi,

The MR21 will use the same stock account as any other transaction for the same valuation class.

Was the MR21 update done BEFORE the valuation class switch, or after?

If it was AFTER the switch then I can think of no reason why the system would have got this wrong.

I would suggest that you try a GR and see what stock account is updated, then try an MR21 and see what stock account is updated. They should be the same (and I bet they WILL be the same)

Hi Ross,

Before changing the valuation Class of a material the stock of the item in all Plants need to be made zero in the previous as well as current period by 562 mvt type or 309 .Further all PR,PO need to be settled or deleted .Than the system will allow changing the valuation class .
