(WM) Storage Type to Storage Type transfer

Former Member

Hello

In some rare cases we need to transfer a material from one Storage Type to another. There's no change in Plant, Warehouse number or Storage Location, only Storage Type.

Currently we create a Transfer Order with Movement Type 999, in transaction LT01. Due to the wide possibilities with Movement Type 999 our regular logistics users don't have access to this Movement Type though, so these movements have to be done by SAP IT personnel.

Does anyone know of another way of doing these transfer postings from one Storage Type to another, without using Movement Type 999?

Best regards

Christian

Hi

As the previous person said movement 999 is the only one to be used, However if you have authorisation issues maybe you could copy 999 and create a new movement type with the same parameters and then allow this movement to the users.

Hi guys

Thanks for the answer both of you. Mvmt. types 309 and 311 could not be used as you probably expected.

So I think we will try looking into creating a new movement type like 999.

Hello Christian,

If you are going to copy the mvt type 999 and keep all the parameters same then how it will defer from original mvt type? becuase it will behave in the same manner as 999.

Consider this point.

I did actually just think about this too. Most likely we will not keep all the parameters, so it's limited to Storage Type to Storage Type transfers, if possible.

Hello Christian,

I doubt that you can control mvt type for particular storage type. The best option will be autorization (transaction level)

OK, thanks for your quick input. I will certainly consider that.

If the destination storage type has to be continously filled, then you can configure for replenishments between source and destination storage types. Otherwise you will have to link the process with a respective movement type and map it to a WM movement where the TO is configured to be created automatically.

Hello Chritian,

To move material internally, there is only one mvt type which is 999 so I dont think for any other option.

Check this out the possibility if it works.

you can do SLoc to SLoc transfer with 311 mvt type (Issuing and receivng SLoc are same), which will create Posting change notice and when you create posting change notice the system uses 309 mvt type.

I am not very sure that this will work, but you can play around to see that.

Hope this helps.
