Mask table usage

Using MDM product masks, you can slice and dice a single master

MDM repository of product information into an effectively unlimited

number of custom virtual repositories, dramatically simplifying the

maintenance of a single repository targeted at multiple audiences. Each

virtual repository can contain a different subset of products from the

master, and appears to the user as a completely private repository.

Product masks can be used to create virtual repositories for a variety of

purposes – including custom subsets for contract customers and

targeted market segments – all driven by a single MDM repository.

Unlike SQL views, product masks impose no performance penalty

whatsoever, and are defined at the individual product level rather than

the query level. To the user of the MDM system, they appear as simply

another dimension of the multidimensional search; on the Web, a mask

can be automatically applied to the published electronic catalog upon

site entry, so that each user sees only the slice of the MDM repository

that you want them to see.

Hi,

I want user to be restricted to certain records when shiopping using SRM-MDM catalog.I have craeted a Mask in Data Manager and have added all the records that specific user should be able to see.

How do I assign this to my SRM user so that he can SHOP for only those records specified in the Mask.

You have a couple of options:

1- assign the mask as a constraint to the role (using the console)

2- assign the mask as a login parameter in the webservice definition in the SRM customizing. use a new parameter, in addition to user / pwd / etc.... which is mask and as value key in the mask value itself.

The option 2 is by far the most flexible one as it does not require you to do any sort of role management in MDM. The generated URL will include the mask as a parameter for connection.

As always very responsive and resourceful.Thanks I am able to set up the Mask functionality successfully.

I am woking on SRM-MDM project.We have successfully set up SRM-MDM catalog functionality.Now we are trying to shop using Portal iviews UI and not standard webdynpro UI.I have seen webex on Eventing functionality https://websmp104.sap-ag.de/~form/sapnet?_FRAME=CONTAINER&_OBJECT=011000358700006179632006E[1];

But I am unable to find any good config documents to successfully impliment URL eventing though I got couple of docs on EPCF.

Think of masks in MDM as containers. So lets say you create a mask (call it "Europe"). You then go through your Vendors or Customers or whatever and add the records that are applicable to that logical grouping to that mask. When you want to see the records contained in that logical grouping, you just select the mask you want to view.

Please note that masks are NOT dynamic. So if you find the records you want added to the mask by a specific search criteria (search by country for instance), the mask is unaware of the search criteria. The mask is only aware of what records have been added to it.

So if you had a customer located in Austria and because of its location, you added it to the Europe mask but later (for whatever reason) the location moved to Nigeria, then you would still find the record in the Europe mask.
