Difference between update rule and transfer rule for MASTER DATA INFOOBJECT

Hello,

What is the difference between mapping a master data infoobject ( and hence a infosource and infoprovider ) to a datasource directly using transfer rules and through update rules and a separate infosource?

Hello,

I think you are talking about direct update and Indirect Update of the InfoObject??

1) Direct up date will have one to one relationship with the datasource and InfoObject where as in Indirect update you will create an infosource in between the Infoobjct and datasource...so that, ur InfoSource will be available for updating some other infoObject or data-targets.

eg: say 0MAT_PLANT:

I want the data from 0MAT_PLANT_ATTR to be uploaded to 0Material and 0Mat_plant..! the if i am using Direct update to InfoObject (0Mat_plant)..then I cannot upload the data to any other infoObjet like 0Material.

So by indirect update method you will have this datasource made available for both 0material and 0Mat_plant by creating a infosoure and linking them with update rules....!
