SAP recommends a single SLD approach for the landscape. How ever, in real time projects, we usually had 2 SLDs. One for Dev and Quality and the other one exclusively for Production.

so in this case do we also have to export the sld contents

Yes. You need to traansport the objects in SLD if you are using multiple SLDs.

Have a look at this doc on handling SLD. Very useful.
