Hello,

it sounds like the database software installation is not working correctly.

When it is an SAP System it would be helpful to have an official custoerm call and a connection to your system.

Which OS-System do you use? The database version is interesting as well? Did you get any information in knldiag, I don't think so. I sounds that the database even does not reach admin state.

The best would be to have a look directly on the system.

Hi,

dbm_getpath looks for the database installation path for INDEPDATA and INDEPPRogram where the independant software and data ( like rundirectory is stored).

It loks like someone deleted the software manually and not using SDBUNINST.

Now it looks like the install registry is missing infomration.

Please check etc/opt/sdb : does this file exsit ? check the acess rights look into the content of this file. Can you find where INDEPDATA and INDEPPROGRAMS should be located. Check if these directories exist.

hi

thanks for the response .that was my greatest suspicion.Since i dont have that directory in ./etc/opt is it possible to just copy it from another system with same db ver?

i think that should be able to work as long as i give the dir the proper permissions and group ownerships.

Hi,

would you please check if the directory /sapdb/data/wrk is avaialble and send us the last isntallation flog file. We want to check if something went wrong with your installation and no error message was sent.

After this we check your question if it is possible to copy another SDB file.

Hi

The Directory /sapdb/data/wrk is there. This wasnt a fresh installation but a full offline restore. With ver 7.4 it works without any problems but 7.5 i think there are some files sapdb writes in /etc/opt

Hi,

now it's clear why you don't have a working installation. It' s not possible to get a running system by copiing the filesystem of diffenrent versions.

To solve this problem use a 7.5 installation package and use SDBNINST to isntall the software on this new server. Then the restart of the database should work.

If you are a SAP custoemr you can use note 735598 and use SDBINST instead of SDBUPD and follow the note.

hi

i have fixed the problem and the database is up and running. What one has to know are the contents of the the sdb file in /etc/opt/sdb.That file contains the path to your database (independent paths and also the database administration user an group.)

Thanks

Hi,

that's fine to hear that the problem has been solved now.

Note that you can alwys use SDBINST to complete a software installation which has been stopped incorrectly before.

You copied the installation from one server to the other and forgot to copy /etc/opt/sdb which includes the path of INDEPDATA and INDEPPROGRAM.

SDBINST would create this file.
