Warehouse Management-Material

Hi ALL,

How can we know if the Material is warehouse managed..? The material can be defined to be warehouse managed in Material Master...warehouse mgmt 1 tab...is it rite? ...

If I select the warehouse mgmt tab of material master i get an error saying "Warehouse mgmt 1 is not active for the organisation level." and it asks me to enter warehouse number..So does this error message mean that Material is not Warehouse Managed....?

Now how to make material Warehouse managed in this case...? Also if the material is made warehouse managed then is it possible to make the material without warehouse managed again....? If yes then ...How?

Thanks in advance..

Ameya K.

Hello Ameya,

Warehouse Management -

Warehouse management is a seperate module in itself that needs to be implemented inorder to get complete functionality of a warehouse. But if you are talking about activating Lean Warehouse Management, pls find the details below -

Step 1: While configuring Enterprise Structure objects - Define a warehouse number and Assign it to a combination of Plant/Storage location.

Step 2: Inorder to make a Lean Warehouse active you need to define atleast one storage type. Path: SPRO - Logistics Execution - Shipping - Picking - Lean WM - Define Storage Type.

A warehouse number is subdivided into a variety of storage types. A storage type is defined by its physical or organizational features (for example, high rack storage area, bulk storage, goods receipt areas).

Before you can implement Lean WM, you must configure the following settings:

1. Assign a (newly defined) storage location to a warehouse number.

2. You should set up at least three storage types:

- a storage type (that will be used as a source storage type) with

one or several fixed storage bins

- a goods issue area (as destination storage type) for deliveries

- an interim storage area for differences

Step 3: Finally, in order make the warehouse you defined earlier active as a lean warehouse...............go to Path: SPRO - Logistics Execution - Shipping - Picking - Lean WM - Define control parameters and number ranges of warehouse no. where you can activate a lean warehouse.

Hello Ameya,

How can we know if the Material is warehouse managed..? The material can be defined to be warehouse managed in Material Master...warehouse mgmt 1 tab...is it rite? ...

If material is managed for warehosue then you will be able to see material record in table MLGN (Material Data for Each Warehouse Number). This is for consultant level.

If any user wants to see whether material is managed for any warehouse, then go to MM03 tcode, give the mateiral number and press enter, select the WM view 1 & 2 and press enter, when it comes to organization level press F4 in the WHN field, it it is maintained then it will pull that WHN with X mark.

If I select the warehouse mgmt tab of material master i get an error saying "Warehouse mgmt 1 is not active for the organisation level." and it asks me to enter warehouse number..So does this error message mean that Material is not Warehouse Managed....?

Warehouse is activated for the combination of Plant and Storage Location, so you need to create the warehouse number in Log execution area and assign it with Plant/SLoc combination in Organization assignment.

Now how to make material Warehouse managed in this case...? Also if the material is made warehouse managed then is it possible to make the material without warehouse managed again....? If yes then ...How?

Once you assign warehouse number to plant/Sloc in assignment and you need to complete the other settings related to WH. Then when you do any inventory transaction which is relevent to that Plant/Sloc combination (which is assigned to WH number) then the system will process Warehouse transactions.

If you have carried out some transaction with Warehouse level, it is not advisable to delete material for WM view (MM06), but you need to complete the open transactions and made the inventory zero for that material then only you need to deactivate/delete WM view for that material.

Hope this helps.

Hi Mohammad / Priti ,

Thanks for the answer. But still have doubts regarding the same....

If i check for the header material in MM03 ...Ware house mgmt view 1 i dont get any error and can see the warehouse number....

Whereas for the component material of the same header material if i check in MM03 ..Ware house mgmt view 1

i get the error "Warehouse mgmt 1 is not active for the organisation level." So now if i continue and press F4 in warehouse no. i get list of warehouse no's...So does this mean that material is warehouse managed.....If yes, then why do we get the error for component material and not for header material....

Plz explain...

Thanks..

Hi Ameya,

Can you please check in what all organsiation level i.e. in what all plant and storage location combinations your component material is maintained.

From your description it looks like the component material is warehouse managed.( if you are seeing the warehouse views in the first screen itself in MM03 while selecting the views - then it means that warehouse view is maintained. please confirm).

If this is the case, then as already stated your component material has warehouse views for one organisation level but it is not maintained for organisation level for which you are trying to see warehouse view.

Please check the following when you try to see the material through MM03.

Do F4 on plant and stroage location for example in Plant/storage location views in material master.

If you see many plants and stoage location, this would mean that your material is present in more than one plant and storage location.

Then try out viewing your material with different combinations until you don't get the error message.

Hi Ameya,

If you are getting message "Warehouse mgmt 1 is not active for the organization level" then this would mean that your material is not warehouse managed in the existing organization level. Organization level means plant, storage location and some other elements of your organisation to which your material belongs..

Basically a warehouse number would be defined for a unique combination of plant and storage location. For example in your customization you have defined that warehouse number 0001 corresponds to plant 1000 and storage location 2000. So now you can enter warehouse number 0001 for your material but this would be allowed if and only if your material is present in plant 1000 and storage location 2000.

In order to make your material warehouse managed , you should extend your material i.e. go to MM01 and enter the same material number, make sure that the material is present in proper plant and storage location before entering the corresponding warehouse number .

Also make sure you have all the customizations defined as Sai suggested.

Hope this helps ..
