Oracle upgrade from 8.0.4.0 t 8.1.7.4 (urgent)

Dear support,

We are in process of upgrading our 4.0B system to 4.7 which is on NT

4.0 platform.And we have successfully upgraded oracle database from

8.0.4.0 to 8.1.7 and was able to connect to sap.We have followed sap

standard document extactly as mentioned but after application of patch

8.1.7.4 now, we can start database normally and showing current version

8.1.7.4.1 but when we try to start SAP MMC it hangs after showing

database status in yellow. we have checked R3trans -d which is 0000 and

other connections to database but cant resolve this issue.Please let us

know how to go ahead.

i'd rather start the db and sap r/3 using sqlplus and startsap instead of mmc - during upgrade scenarios like these...ora8 is quite old and 40b as well...you still have to go at least for ora9 so you'd better switch the kernel (mmc is part of that!) afterwards...

R3 is not getting connected as i mentioned MMC showing database yellow status.

And which kernel should i use as it is 4.0 B version and compatible for oracle 8.1.7.4 as per document . Where to download latest kernel patch for 4.0B system.

Also which are the logfiles i should check below i paste some of them which doesnt contain updated data ,

Please reply urgently.

as per your log i see following erros.

1) C *** ERROR => CONNECT failed with sql error '12505'

You can find more details Note 576919 - Composite SAP note ORA-12505

2) *** ERROR => DpHalt: gateway (pid 75) still alive ... [dpxxdisp 5008]

check for this PID and try to kill manually if this not getting killed after stop your SAP.

your R3trans -d should work.

so do u think error with listener configuration. How should i jump to that conclusion

as listerner is up and running and i have done configuration exactly as per document.

There is a problem with environment variable settings

as per your dev_w1: log your ORACLE_HOME is G:\orant

you have logged in as user prdadm and the environemnt variable is for user prdadm.

could you please check the SAP services, it may be starting with user SAPService try to change the owner to prdadm and start your SAP. or change the environment setting for SAPSerivce and start SAP

sunil its an NT 4.0 system , do u really think sapSERVICE user would be appropriate to connect to SAP

i have tried to connect with user SAPserviceprd after changing its env variables

but still error is same.Do u think anything went wrong with listener.ora or tnsnames.ora, i am not getting any error message for connection with database.

which kernel level u will suggess for 4.0B system for oracle 8.1.7.4 version,

nothing as such mentioned in sap document .

well,

this is 4.0B and I assume that you are still running the old service executable sapntstartb.exe and not sapstartsrv.exe (which is the MMC one, introduced with 4.5B). You can check this by running

regedit

Have a look at HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\SAPPRD_??, Value of Variable ImagePath.

sapntstartb.exe was not able to automatically update the environment of the SAPService SAPRD_?? with the one of the <sid>adm user.

After changing <sid>adm's environment you have to run a small tool called ntenv2reg.exe, which will update the environment of the Service which is stored in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\SAP\<SID>\Environment

I also remember - 40B is a long time ago - that there was a possibility to run sapstartsrv.exe, the new MMC based executable. But I don't think that you are running it.

is your R/3 up and running? if yes then no need to worry, if not then provide detailed log files for analysis. There may be problem with kernel i think after upgrade to latest kernel your MMC problem should go.

Database is well up and running i was able to connect to R3 even after upgrade but after i applied patches 8.1.7.4 then i have done post upgrade activities and then this problem came.
