Delay before errors appear in default.trc?

The output to the default log file appears to be buffered. Sometimes it is taking HOURS before the needed messages appear. I have looked through the help on the Log Manager and Log Configurator Service, but I can't find a relevant setting. I expected to see something like a commit time interval or block size to control this.

Has anyone else found a way to get timely information into the default trace file?

Hi Sean,

There should be no delay in writing to the log files at all.

What level do you have the logs set too? Try increasing the amount of logging and you may see more activity.

How are you viewing the log file? Using the visual administrator or a text editor reading from the server?

Regards

It varies. Mostly at error, but the developers have added some debug output too.

We're using the Log Viewer, logging into to the J2EE (similar to using the V.A.).

SAP Support confirmed that there is no buffering. What had happened is that the developer happened to access it when the file rolled over to default.n+1.trc

Refreshing the file list (and not the log file alone) probably would have fixed it.
