Set Up Time -Scenario

Former Member

Hello Sir,

I am having a routing for my Fert with one operation . Setup and machine

times are 30 minutes(example) and 510 minutes(example) respectively.

Shift timings are from 6.00 am to 14.00 pm ( with out any break - example)

8.00 hrs.My individual capacity is 1.

When i created a prodn order my set up time starts on 12.04.2007 at 1.00 pm

and ends at 1.30 pm .From there my machine time starts at 1.30 pm and

on 12.04.2007 at 14.00 pm shift time ends for the day-No more

available capacity ).Again on 13.04.2007 at 6.00 am i need to setup the

machine for my prodn to go smooth for the whole day and after finishing setup

my usual prodn starts .How to include this scenario in my routing.

Can anybody explain the settings and how to go about.

Thanks,

S.Nandhakumar

Hello tajjuddin,

I got the answer for including my set up time for a particular op daily.

Ans:

In opu3 set the indicator shift order.

confirm the particular op partially at the shift end

for the remaining qtys schedule the op for the next day by entering dates

manually

this will include set up time for next day and process time for the remaining

qts.

EX ;

my set up time for op is 60 mins/Process time is 1min for 1 pc

total available time is 480 minutes(NoBreak)

Scheduling Forward:order qty is 430 pcs

say for ex

op 1 starts at 6.00 am and ends at 7.00 am.( set up time)

Process time starts at 7.00am and ends at 2.00 pm(shift end)

made 420pcs.schedule the op by entering next day with opu3 shift

order indicator.

For the remaining 10 pcs again next day op starts at 6.00 am with set up time

and ends at 7.00 am.

Process time starts at 7.00 am and ends at 7.10 pm ( for 10 pcs).

So i am including the setup time daily.

I think this is correct.

Correct me if i am wrong.

Hi Nanda Kumar,

Let us not beat around the bush, SAP R/3 does not support minute or hour scheduling of work center. You need to go for APO - PPDS for this requirement or some major enchancement(Which i dont recommend).

Hope this helps...

Hi Guys,

If i put the same question in another way

I have to run the machine idle for 30mins everyday in the morning and then start the actual product then how will i consider this idle time of 30 mins in my scheduling and capacitry calculation ?

Hi Abhijeet,

In your case i would suggest that my capacity is just 7.5hrs instead of 8.0hrs.

Hello Nanda,

Set up time and execution times depends on the lot size (base quantity) and it has no effects with availabe capacity. If you have multiple (frequent) setup time then you have create a new formula for the multiple setups.

If helpful rewards your points.

hi tajuddin

if i am not wrong

set time does not depend upon lot size

if i want to produce 100 qty

and set up tme reqd is 1 hr then for producing 100 qty set up time is only

1 hour

Hi

Please think realistically.

Once you set up the machine to produce a certain qty , why do you disturb the settings.

Even if you want to stop the machine for the end of the day the machine normally not to be disturbed.

I find there is deviation form the normal working.

Please let me know the full scenario.

Hello Balu,

I didn't understand your question. Set up time will be based on the base quantity defined in the work scheduling. For example for base quantity 100 pieces my set up time (for all operations) is 10 minutes and suppose you get the order of 500 pcs then set up time will be multiplied 10*500= 50 minutes.

If your working with multiple setups (suppose frequest berakdown of machine due to power failure and you need to setup machines every time) then you have to define suitable formula in the work center (standard value key) for set up activity.

I hope this is now clear.

If you have any doubt let me know.

Hi NandaKumar,

As explained please define the available capacity as 7.5hrs. Please work with your CO consultant to capture the daily 0.5hrs warming up time as overhead cost.

Hope this helps....reward your points,
