Hi.
I would like to know if BPS or BI-Integrated planning replace the COPA module in SAP.
Cheers
Anand
NO. You can still have COPA planning even if you have BPS or IP.

Thanks Ravi.
I am in a new implementation of ECC6 and NWO4S BI. I am wondering if I could configure, IP instead of COPA because of IP's new capabilities. Does IP/BPS have all the Profitability Analysis features of COPA in addition to the planning capabilities. As I haven't seen the IP/BPS yet, I am not sure.
Cheers

Hi anand,
I would be obliged if you can send me also that document.

I sent you the flow of data between R/3 and BI.
Go ahead and start your analysis. There are a few permutations and options.
The flow I sent is clear enough to guide you. If you have any more specific questions, let me know.

Ravi,
I am working through my first IP project and would appreciate if you could help with a couple of questions and a request.
Questions:
1. When extracting COPA data to BI both actual and plan (if it exists) data will be extracted am I correct?
2. When creating the COPA planning cube, is it best to create a real time cube and copy actuals data from the original COPA cube into the real time COPA cube for planning purposes?
Request:
1. Can you send me the doc on the flow of data between R/3 an BI you mentioned in this thread
Thanks,
Milind
Anand,
Remember BI will handle reporting and IP only planning.
Only COPA planning and reporting will happen in BI / IP.
As you said, when you come to design or assessment, let me know.

Hi Ravi,
Do you have any architecture / Landscape slide that explains the planning, profitability calculation and reporting dataflow that you can share with me.
Something like this:
R/3
SD (Transactions)-->BI 7.0 DSO > IP(Planning)>BI (Reporting)
PP (Transactions)-->BI 7.0 DSO >IP (Planning)> BI (Reporting)
Cheers
Anand
Let me know if you actually start desining and developing. If you need help.

You got it , right. Anand.
You can send the data to IP and do the calculations and planing in IP.

Anand,
The COPA data that is extracted will be stored in the data warehouse layer of BI 7 and which can be accessed by a report in query designer in which the planing will happen.
The dtaa flows is like this:
1Enter and record all the business transactions in R/3 - various modules and components and transfer them to COPA.
2. Build COPA data source in R/3
3. Extact the COPA data to COPA DSO or Cube in Bi 7
4. Make a planning cube in BI 7.
5. Create aggregation levels, filters based on planning cube and actual cube.
6. Create planning functions to do perform planning calculations and apply business logic.
7. Create input ready query in query designer.
8. Launch the query and planning.
Also, since BPS is also present in BI 7 along with IP, you can do the planing in BPS component also, but any future functionalities will be delivered towards IP.

Thanks a lot Ravi.
Now I am confused. Are you saying that we still need to configure the COPA module in R/3. From your earlier post I got the impression that we don't need to configure the COPA module in R/3 if we have BI-IP. I thought:
1. All the transactions relevant to COPA would be transferred to BI 7.
2. From the transaction data in BI, one could setup profitability calculations in BPS
3. Finally create reports in BI

Anand
You have 2 options.
1. Do the COPA and extract that into BI.
2. Do the COPA calculations in BPS / IP and stay in BI.

Thanks Ravi.
So I understand that Profitability calculations can indeed be carried out in BI-IP. Now, does the BI-IP extract and store all the transactions (Sales documents etc) that hit the profitability calculations? If so, can me share any such document that provide the trypical sequence/workflow for the same?
Thanks.
Cheers
Anand
BPS / IP has some features which may not be there in R/3 planning areas.
Usually, if you have BPS / IP, planning will be carried out in this rather than in R/3.
And again pros and cons for both R/3 planning and BPS / IP.
