Backup has very negative impact on system response time

Hello,

we are currently working on an issue on high system repsonse times for users while the full backup of MaxDB is running on Windows. When the backup starts (total runtime about 4 hours for ~ 1TB DB) the system gets very laggy and dialog times in the SAP GUI are going up.

Due to that circumstance the full backup is scheduled once a week plus incremental backups on workdays.

Backup Template looks like this:

Type: Complete Data
Device Type: File
Four Devices
Compression/Overwrite: on

Are there any possibilities to optimize MaxDB full backup so the pressure on the SAP system can be lowered?

Thanks in advance + regards

Daniel

Hi Daniel,

What is the warning shown in the maxdb analyzer? You can access the analyzer via db50 or dbacockpit.

Best regards,
James

Hi James,

sorry for the delay and thanks for your reply!

Here is a screenshot from a day when the full backup is running:

Hi Daniel,

The red lines shows file system access is slow, which could be the cause, so I think backup takes most of the io resource, maybe you can involve the hardware vendor in checking whether they have some input.

We got the same problem. It must be typical for MaxDB with default configuration.

Hi Alexander,

have you found any solution or at least a workaround?
