Dear All,

I have few doubts regards working with solution manager 4.0

1. After Installation of solution manager i have created a new client 100 which is a copy of client 000 and user masters from 001. Now my doubt is that can we work with 100 or should we work only with 001. ( because when i execute few transactions it says work only with 001 )

2. what is the role of the following consultants in solution manager and how they were called

BASIS Consutant and Fuctional consultant.

3. How should i frame the roles which i create for functional or other consultants in solmon.

regards,

Anand

Hi ,

1 i can't help you since its a basis Q.

2. The difference between BASIS and FUNCTIONAL consultants is that BASIS will create solman users and provide maintenance and support for the system whether it can related to user creation or installing new hardware or installing packages or components oss notes etc.

FUNCTIONAL :- they create projects on which we create scenario etc . They test plans etc are generated for testing , change request management for maintenance projects etc.

Functionals has very much important in building or desinging the BLUEPRINT phase etc.

3.Depending upon the use you to assign the roles to user for. e.g.

say solar01 and solar02 relates to blueprint so assign them to functional consultants.

Please reward points for the same.

Hi,

If you had gone through the IMG nodes, It is clearly mentioned that you should make a client copy of 001. The source should be 001. This is special with SOLMAN, unlike other SAP systems, because the pre-configured settings come with 001.

The Basis consultant Play a big role as far as SOLMAN is concerned. They are Technical consultants (Don't confuse with ABAPers). ABAPers are called as developers not technical consultants. The BASIS Consultants do

1. Landscape Setup by generating RFCs.

2. Setup Solution Monitoring - Monitoring the satellite systems (can be your R/3, BW, SCM or anything)

3. Central System Administration from SOLMAN.

4. Setup Early Watch Alert.

5. Creating connection to SAP for support

6. Installation Maintenance, Appy Support packs. and a lot more.

The functional Consultants create projects, blueprints, do configuration for satellite systems from SOLMAN, Do testing. Maintain complete documentation of the project.

Hope this solves your problem.

Feel free to revert back.

Source of client copy in solution manager was 001 until Solution Manager 4.0.

Since Solution Manager 4.0, you should use following selection when you do client copy:

Source: Client 000

Source User: Client 001

Target: Your new client

Profile: SAP_ALL

Explanation for above selection from SM4.0 IMG:

SAP delivers a client with a standard configuration for the Solution Manager.

Client 000 is updated in Support Packages, so it is the source for client copy.

Client 001 contains users for the Java Stack, for communication between ABAP and Java, so client 001 must be the source client for users.

You can also refer OSS note 550894 regarding this changes.

HI,

Always use client 000 as a template, and never client 001. (Older SAP Solution Manager releases prior to Release ST 4.0 constitute a known exception to this.)

Hi Anandha,

we just setting up SolMan 4.0 . Would you give me some example transactions which give the message 'works only with client 001' . This would help us to avoid

problems. We planned to copy 001 to our standard client 030.

Thanks for your help.

with best regards,

Juergen
