I haven't defined the default Item Category Group in a material type. However, when I extend a material to another Sales Org. The Item Category Group in Sales View under MM03 come up with a default value. How and why?
There are not many options to default values in a material master, one option is a MRP profile and the other BADI_MATERIAL_REF

Dear Jason,
The item category group is defined for a material type in the transaction OMS2.
This normally picked up while creating a material.
In case you have maintained default values to be populated when creating a material with the help of reference articles then please check if the value being populated that way.
Please check the merchandise category of the material you created.
Then go to WG22. Enter the merchandise category and then click on the MC Ref. Article button on top.
This will take you to the material master maintenance screen for this reference article if it exists.
Specify the sales org and then proceed to view the item category group in the Sales view.
