Questions about APO training (Please reply urgently).

Hey guys,

I am starting my training in APO with a training institute ,which will train me for about 50 hrs on APO, and grant me 3 months of access to the SAP system.

I had the following questions.

1. What are the prior requirements if you have to take certification exam for APO? Are there any prerequisites, or any sort of other requirements?

2. I wanted to know if 3 months access would be enough for me to prepare for certification?If not then how much access is enough?

3. How long can I not give the exam again, if I fail once?

Please answer these questions prior to answers:

1. Which country are you taking the training/certification?

2. What component of APO is it? APO has Dp, SNP, PP/DS, GATP and TP/VS. Each one of them is an ocean. Generally new people just work inone of them when they enter.

3. What is your background? Do you haev any experience in SAP or I2? If yes which component?

1. In USA

2. I am going to train in DP or PP/DS

3. I am a MS in Supply Chain Systems

4. I do have only elementary experience in SAP, but not worked on any huge project as such.

A: Nothing to take exam in US. But generally good to take the required courses either from SAP or qualified people. Check this <a href="http://www50.sap.com/useducation/curriculum/mySAP.asp?tid=4">link</a> for course details. If you are looking at DP, the courses list is given under "Planning with APO" and PPDS, I am not sure but check all the courses and see which one meets your requirement. Also DP and PPDS have different certification exams. DP and SNP are in one exam. See the list of <a href="http://www50.sap.com/useducation/certification/examcontent.asp">certifications</a>

2. I wanted to know if 3 months access would be enough for me to prepare for certification? If not then how much access is enough?

A: As you are MS in Supply chain, I guess you know the basics but you need to know how the SAP does production planning. For DP, you need a very little SD knowledge and some BW knowledge. For PPDS, you have to be well versed with Material Master in MM an PP concepts. 3months really may not be enough. It is all relative to you and your capability. I would say it may take 6 months by the time you learn everything, get certified and get into a project. It could be faster for few Jems.

3. How long can I not give the exam again, if I fail once?

A: "A candidate may not retake an examination before 30 days following the failure."

Be aware there are many institutes in US that cheat you by not teaching you properly. Even they don’t know well. Particularly for APO, only SAP can teach properly even though its expensive. Others just waste yoour money and time, unless reliable.

I wanted to know one more thing. The requirements for getting certified are something like" you should be working for current employer for atleast 12 months and must have 2 years experience in implementing SAP projects."

OR "You should have detailed product knowledge through ramp-up knowledge transfer or standard classroom offerings. You will be required to produce certificate of attendance issued by the training center in India."

Are these requirements valid for all the certifications by SAP ?I do not have these requirements, altough the training firms use resume "tuning" to get the job done. What do you think I should do? Go ahead with it? Or just take the training and try to get certified after 2 years time ??

I believe those requirements are in India and may be in other Asia pacific not in US. Talk to the SAP customer service. They will answer all your questions. Unlike in other countries, SAP in US doesn't force you to take any courses. But if you don't have enough knowledge, then its a problem for you.
