What is the best way to disable Fixed asset ledger?

my company would like to disable fixed asset ledger for few company codes. some of them had asset created and depreciated way before (i.e. 2004) and now they would like to disable the fixed ledger so no one can post it. please let me know what is the best way so no system inconsistency take place

Well, speaking procedurally-wise you would have first to close your AA year. You would need it in order to finalise duly all financial aspects of your assets' ledger.

If you do so and don't open a new year in AA, then you won't be able to perform any posting in AA. For safety lock, you could also block G/L accounts in question.
