hi
I know you have gone through many treads but just check these links, may be they provide you necessary answers
JDI (Java Development infrastructure)/NWDI is complimentary to NWDS.
https://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/sdn/wiki?path=/display/java/netweaverDevelopmentInfrastructure+%28NWDI%29&
When using the NWDI framework you create new DC's rather than projects in the NWDS
Thanks & Regards

Hi Renushree,
Although one more link, but still have a look at this very simple explanation given by Kenny:
<a href="https://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/sdn/thread?threadID=358667&tstart=0">How NWDI and NWDS are related</a>
For your convenience, I am reproducing what he has written:
NWDS is Netweaver Developer Studio where the development takes place.
NWDI is NetWeaver Development Infrastructure.
The SAP NetWeaver Development Infrastructure (DI) provides versioning and building functionality as well as life cycle management for Java applications.
SAP NWDI is integrated in the SAP NetWeaver Developer Studio to allow the combination of local development and testing with centrally synchronized, team-oriented development.
