how to create text variable

can any one please explain me how to create the text variable.Helpful answers ll be credited.Please respond as soon as possible.

For 7.0 Query designer,

in the Properties Pane on the right side, select the Key figure for which you want to create the text variable.Under General tab, on the right side of Description there is a button to invoke 'Select Values For Text Variable' dialog. In this dialog click on the push button 'Create new variable'.Text variable can be created.
