UM Notification using an SMTP server which requires user/pass ?

Dear Sirs,

I am trying to configure UM Notification by email. My problem is that the smtp server requires the portal to use a username/password in order to be able to send email outside its domain (so it works within the domain).

How can I setup UM Notification so that it is using a username/password against the SMTP.

I am currently running EP7 SP10.

I have read the section Configuring E-Mail-Connectivity on help.sap.com (http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw2004s/helpdata/en/3b/10083f56e4d861e10000000a114084/frameset.htm). I have seen similar thread on sdn as well, but without a clear solution.

Best regards,

Jørgen

Hi Jorgen,

I have tried to configure smtp server which requires authentication but I couldn't succeeded. There are more than smtp server configuration on Portal. One for UM, one for KM, one for Workflow etc. Any of these configurations allow to fill username / password field except KM. Even I filled authentication data in configuration, mails are not sent. I monitored network communication between Portal and SMTP server. strange thing is portal didn't sent any authentication data. I have also created oss note but didn't worked...

Finally, our customer is accepted to use smtp server without authentication.

As you see, it is a long story. I hope you will make it...

Regards

Abdul.

Hello Abdul,

Regarding the OSS note, did you get any answer from SAP whether this scenario should be possible or not?

best regards,

Hi,

In OSS reply, they said that this is configuration problem, not a bug. According to this reply it is possible ( only in KM Notifications not for UM Notifications ) but I couldn't find a way to send authenticated e-mail.

My alternative solution was installing one of the free smtp servers and sending all mails to this server without any authentication and forwarding all mails to real smtp server with authentication data. I have succeded this with hMailServer ( found with google, I don't know it is good or not ) but I didn't go through this solution later since we have decided to use smtp server without authentication. However, I was able to send an anonymous e-mail through this server on test system.

Abdul.
