Hello gurus,
When we right click on Master data infosource we have a option like GENERATE EXPORT DATASOURCE, so what is the significance of that and what actually happens when we press that.
I ll surely award points.
Thanks
Dear Khanna,
When u click on export data source option, system generates a infosource.
Actually this is required when u want to send data from one infoprovider to another infoprovider in same system or in external BIW system.
In practice some times need comes for sending data from one target to another target. In this situation this is required. Many times u first load data in to ODS and then u send it to cube, this is the typical case you need export data source.
Once you click this, system created infosource from the same. useing this infosource and creating update rule u can load data in to another target.
Hope this answers your question.

Hi,
It is used to use an Infoobjet as the source for other Objects(either Other IO,ODS and/or something else) Instead of depending up on P-table of First IO . Which avoids the creation of Generic extraction and allows easy delta capable DS creation.

Up to version 3.5, it has relevance and not anymore in 7.0.

Generate export datasource is NOT obsolete.
I would like to correct here and state that even in nw2004s generate export datasource has importance ,if you need to connect to multiple BI instances.
In my case I have Global BI implementation project for 46 countries (cant disclose client) Andreas you know it .Some countries are still in BI 3.x to which my Corporate nw2004s would be talking to...Now I need Datamart in order to get data from all this 46 BI implementations.
Single BI Instance dont need Generate export datasource.
Andreas - Appreciate to please confirm.
Hope it Helps

@CP..
Hello Chetan / Andreas,
We are on latest patch level and SP for NW04s.
I am using BW 3.5 data sources, which are already being used in existing 3.5 data flow. However for new development, if I have to use 3.5 data sources, I am creating transformations and DTP over 3.x data sources.
Some how, I find that every other day those transformations and DTP get inactive automatically. We don't touch them after we leave them active.
Could any one help us out on preventing this automatic inactivation process.
Thanks
Jeff
There are 2 scenrios:
1: LO Cockpit 3.5 data sources - DTP / transformations working fine . no issues so far. (Any risk in this set-up ?)
2. Generic data sources 7.0 - DTP / transformations are getting inactive in every 2-3 days. even there is no activity (changes or data loads). Please help on it.
Thanks
Jeff
generate export data source is used earlier(3.x)(its obsolete as of 7.0) to load data from one IO/dataprovider to other one provider within BI (datamarts). suppose if u click on 0GL_Account as export datasource, the system will generate another infosource as 80GL_ACCOUNT(starting with 8). and you can find them under the application component - datamarts. So now you can load the gl account data into another infoobejct within ur system, say to 0CS_ITEM.

Generate Export datasource Insights -
If a business case requires Global EDW (Enterprise Data warehouse) ,in other words multiple BI connection/instances (USA - BI talking to EUROPE -BI) in that case you still need to have DATAMART technology .(i.e generate export datasource) .
For Standalone BI you dont need Generate Export Datasource
Hope it Helps
