SAP NetWeaver 7.01 to 7.4 upgrade. Application Instance Upgrade scenario

Hello,

We are upgrading our Portal systems from SAP NetWeaver 7.01 to 7.4.

Till now we have successfully upgraded lower environments and there were no major issues.

One doubt which I have is related to upgrade of Application Instance(Known earlier as Dialogue Instance).

Earlier before SUM came into picture, using SAPINST we used to stop Application server uninstall and after upgrade re-install it.

Now as far as I am concern, using SUM we need not worry about additional application Instance during upgrade..?

I have gone through the Master Upgrade guide and it added to my confusion as it mentions that we need to uninstall and reinstall additional application Instance using SUM as well (But it also mentions "only valid for Source Release': SAP Web AS 6.40" so don’t think it holds good for SAP NetWeaver 7.01)

But I want to be absolutely sure before I proceed for the upgrade as it we are dealing with production server.

So any expert opinion would be much appreciated to clear this confusion.
