Leave request workflow through ESS

HI all ,

we are using ECC6.0 EP 7.0 .

We here are using the ESS leave request application .

When we are applying for leave the message (message sent ) appears.

But when we see in the R3 under transaction SWI1 , we see that no workflow has been triggered .

1. What could be the possible reason .

2. Are there any way by which we can make sure through ESS which workflow template will be called .

Any help in this regard will be useful.
