I think that you must be very clear as to what Knowledge Mangement is. It is a philosophy around how to manage non-structured knowledge of a company. Documents, Images, emails, im's, etc... all fall into that category. Now SAP has rolled is still very limited knowledge management solution into EP, but that is not the only way to do this. There are ton's of KM systems out there, and dependant on the needs of your company they may work better then EP. For instance... SharePoint does Knowledge Management, as well as documentum, and many more. All of which can be pulled into EP. The real question is what are the business requirements around KM. What do you want to manage, what is the delivery channel, etc... A KM endeavour is a large one, and needs to managed differently.

Hi Trevor…thanx for your reply!

Technically speaking SAP KM in EP5 and EP6 is installed after installing portal!! This is not the case for EP7…with EP7 its ONE installation. We are using EP6, and my concern is administrating KM FUNCTIONAL WISE apart from portal, even with portal existence.

Is there any document that supports the idea of having Portal without KM or Managing KM separately!!

Any insight will be valuable!!

Thanx,

Demorgan

Hi All,

Interesting subject you are having here... i was looking around to find a justification of separating the KM from Portal!!

I Know that u can't have a KM without portal, yet, i guess they can operate separately!!

is there any documentation that you can help me with to prove this point:

KM can be handled separately from portal. Event hough, it resids over EP!

Thanx,

Demorgan
