Automated Formatted Search

Hi,

I need to perform a checking on a field. If the value in field doesn't not match any of the value in database, the search form show prompt out. I know when we hit shift + F2 will bring up the window. Is there any other method or possibility that i can use to trigger the formatted search without the use of SDK?
