Error when installing Solution Manager

Hi

I'm attempting to install the SAP Solution Manager 4.0 SR2 on Windows. I meet all the requirements. It begins the install and starts going through the list. It gets to "ABAP Import" and fails here. I get the following errors.

ERROR 2007-03-20 17:50:49

CJS-30023 Process call 'C:\usr\sap\LVT\SYS\exe\uc\NTI386\R3load.exe -testconnect' exits with error code 2. For details see log file(s) R3load.exe.log.

ERROR 2007-03-20 17:50:49

FCO-00011 The step testDatabaseConnection with step key |NW_Onehost|ind|ind|ind|ind|0|0|NW_Onehost_System|ind|ind|ind|ind|1|0|NW_CreateDBandLoad|ind|ind|ind|ind|10|0|NW_ABAP_Import_Dialog|ind|ind|ind|ind|5|0|NW_ABAP_Import|ind|ind|ind|ind|0|0|testDatabaseConnection was executed with status ERROR .

From the error it seems it could have a problem with the database connection, am I correct??

I'm using DB2, after installing DB2 I can work with it and create databases and so on. But in the Solution manager install guide it says you must execute the following in the comand window

set DB2INSTANCE=DB2

db2stop force

db2idrop DB2

I did do that, but after doing that if I go to the DB2 control center I can't create/add databases, I get the follwoing error "SQL1092N "" does not have the authority to perform the requested command. " So I'm not sure what the problem is. I'm new to DB2, any assistance will be rewarded.

Thanks in advance

hi, the three steps are correct...sap uses/creates a database of its own, so no db is needed...

-> are you able to set the command <i>r3load -testconnect</i>? is the (potential) error the same?

-> which user do you use for the installation? has it administrative rights?

-> what is the actual phase you're in?

-> did you follow all relevant steps when installaing the rdbms?

Hi

ok, what i also notice is that after installing IBM DB2 it has a green icon in the bottom right of windows server where you have your date and time. After executing the above command in the command window it does not have it anymore. I agree that sap makes it's own database and so on. But after doing that command should you not be able to create databases of your own if required?

->I will need to test this, I don't have the machine by me now. Will get back to you with this. I assume this tests the connection.

->I use domain administrator for the install.

->The phase i'm in is when it starts installing, shows a list with all the things it does. Starts going through the list and ticks everything that installed fine. it fails at "import abap".

->Yes I did, I did the steps shown in the solution manager. from 1 till where it gives the comand window comands.

Thanks in advance

Hi

I opened the "Command Window". I typed r3load -testconnect. It then returns saying that r3load is not recognized. The error is different.

Here is the whole log. Please let me know what is wrong.

Hi

Not sure what you mean by execute command.

If I execute in IBM db2 command window it does not recognize the command.

If I go into windows Command Prompt and place myself in the directory "C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\etc" and then say r3load -testconnect i get the following in the windows command prompt window

Please, any assistance will be greatly appreciated.

Hi

I do everything as administrator. It is a test sytem and i always log on as administrator.

Do you know why it is failing??

Please help

i presume that the administrator has not the appropriate environment set in order to communicate with the database...usually this is done by the <sid>adm...

Hi

I'm not sure what you mean. Just to make sure we are talking about the same thing. What do you mean by "<sid>adm..."??

Thanks in advance

Andreas you are right,

using Administrator is a bad idea, because this one has a lot of restrictions compared to a user belonging to the local administrators group.

As the installation guide states, the installer needs to be member of the local Administrators group, but please do not use Administrator.

I dont know the db2 environment exactly, but if their environment tries to load a DLL from
<sapglobalhost\sapmnt\.....> and you are using adminstrator as user this will fail without explicit authentifiction.

You can try to run net use
<sapglobalhost>\sapmnt /u:administrator

<sapglobalhost> is the computername of the server where the \usr\sap\sid\SYS\global is located on.

Hi Peter

I am using administrator.

Just just to clear this. You are suggesting i create a "user" that is a member of the local administrator. Is this correct??

Thanks in advance

yes

set the environment variable in Windows DIR_LIBRARY to F:\usr\sap\SID\SYS\exe\nuc\NTI386 (for non unicode)

F:\usr\sap\SID\SYS\exe\uc\NTI386 (for unicode)

What you try is

Start - execute

runas /user:.\lvtadm cmd.exe

then enter the password of lvtadm and you get a command prompt with the correct environment without the need to logoff the administrator.

Then try

R3load -testconnect
