How to connect Microsoft Power BI Desktop/Excel to SAP HANA database?

Hi everyone,

I could really use some help. What I would like to achieve is connect to SAP HANA database using Excel and/or MS Power BI. I am able to connect to database via MDX Provider(Excel) and SAP Lumira using same connection parameters, but i would like to do it by using Power Query→From Database→SAP HANA Database. I have installed 64/32bit SAP HANA ODBC drivers, but, when I try to make a connection from Excel using Power Query or from MS Power BI, I get unable-to-connect-pbid.png. I am pretty new to all of this so I don't know what to do. What could be the problem?

I would check Microsoft PowerBI's instructions at https://powerbi.microsoft.com/en-us/documentation/powerbi-desktop-sap-hana/ - I haven't tried this, but when trying to connect other clients to HANA I usually experience a port issue - I would check that first.

If that doesn't work, then maybe post something in the PowerBI Microsoft site

The 10709 error could mean a lot of things. Could you try turning on some ODBC tracing so we can get a more detailed error?
