VKOA Question

Hello SAP Gurus:

Could someone please explain why we maintain the GL accounts in 5 tables as shown in the first screen of VKOA.

Also when we go to the next screen why do we have two columns for GL Account.

Is there an explanation of this configuration somewhere?
