Both are not the same. If you have fiscal period in your cube, then you must have fiscal year and not cal year. cal year is jan-dec; starts on jan1 and ends on dec31.
Where as the fiscal year can start on jan2 and end on dec 27 also. Depends on how fiscal year variant is set in the source system.
If you have records in fiscl period and use cla year in the report, the data will not be correct for reasons mentioned above.

Hi,
I hace requiremnet like if the user enter fiscal year 02.2007
then it should compare the price of the material with 31stmarch previous year i.e 31/03/06
in the selection screen instead of fiscal year I kept calyear so any thing fiffers in my o/p beacuse however I have to compare whatever the user enters with calday i.e 31st march
If you are talking about Inventory then you should use 0CALYEAR as the infoObject to map to the Year.

CalYear is the Normal calander Year ie Jan to Dec for a Year
FiscYear can be different to calyear in that it is the financial Calander for a Company ie April to March (fiscal year variant) therefore the Years depending on which Object you use can be different.

The diffrerence is only in accounting where fiscal year could be from april 2007 to march 2008 depending on fiscal variant.
Calyear is what all we know.
Hope it helps.
