In the data mining workbench if I want to use an ODS as a target, can it only be a transactional ODS? If so what is there any problems that I could potential face if I use a transactional rather than a Std ODS? Thanks

Yes in analisys proceses only transactional ODS can be used.

The thing create a process chain which delete previous content of transactional ODS, execute your APD and when load is finished load from transactional ODS to a standard ODS with the same structure.
