R3 Enterprise CD Madness

Dear Abby;

We are trying to install a sandbox copy of DEV to practice upgrades. As I am new to the shop how can I determine what are the correct CD's and install doc to use for the install of the copy? 110 or 200 ? We are ASCII. Guessing 110 SR1 but there are multiple ASCII export CDs even for that.

Confused in NC

Thanks for all the help. Using notes 707805 and 708864 I am able to patch the SAPINST install. I am using the first set of CDs for SR1 110 along with that version of the Install Guide. With SAP it has always been that you download the install manual and read every OSS note mentioned or refered to. Now with all the versions, various marketing names, and hundreds of PDFs its hard to feel confident that you are on the right track. Maybe SAP should have to print and ship or FAX everything. We have to improve the quality and reduce the quantity of all this. I can't read a terabyte a day. I should have addressed my email to Evelan Wood. Thanks again.

Hi Craig,

Oops , I forgot ..u will also need a6.20 CD for the install...as it will ask u for during the input phase...so u will have to download the two part kernel CD ...and then if u do not want to use this kernel and use a 6.40 kernel...select in the subsequent screen.."use a existing kernel library" . (Load an existing 6.40 kernel before u do that...)

Hope that helps u out a little...

Thanks

Abhi

I know its a big bad world out there as far as the documents are concerned...:)) but isn't it fun going thru all of that...just kiddin...Have fun...

I can see from SPAM that we are 110.

I guess the set of DB export CDs won't matter as I will use my SAVFIL in the end anyway.

Hi Craig,

You are on the right track...

What I would suggest and do, if i were in yor place, would be to use the SAPinst kit from note number 708864 for system copy, instead of doing a install and then do a refresh....from DEV....

You can prepare the system copy kit as per this note number...am assuming u are running 4.7 system atleast...

Will save u a lot of time...

Thanks

Hello Craig,

I would check menu System - Status - Component version on DEV to determine what version to install. Yes, there are multiple DB-export CDs/DVDs for SAP ERP. You need all of them for a successful fresh installation.

After that, you can copy DEV to the new sandbox. (In fact, if you refresh DB and kernel properly, I don't think 110 or 200 matters)

Or following the system copy procedure, dump the data from DEV, and load it to the new system during the installation.

Best regards,

Victor

Just FYI - Confused because of mutiple sets of Export CDs i.e. 1 with 1-4 and 2 with 1-3. Also we have 640 Kernel now. Trying to do a homogenious install from a SAVLIB.
