variable in area

Hi Friends,

In the planning area , variables tab, if there is a variable defined for a characteristic, but it is not used in the planning level and the planning level shows 'selection in package' is not flagged, and there is no values set in the level for this char,

question is, is there a value set in the planning area by that variable in the planning area if this variable is exit-derived and 'restriction of values required by user'? and what difference will it make if there is no user value restriction set?

please could you let me know.

regards

Sanjay

Having Variables defined on the Planning Area are held globally to be used in any of the Levels, functions, etc for that Planning Area, if you do not use them in any Planning levels or functions then it has no effect on the Planning Area.

If there is no User Restriction then basically all users who have access to a planning template will have access to the data set, therefore you will run into locking issue's if for example the Characteristic is at a high level, the first user to enter the planning template will lock the whole data set from other users.

Thanks Anand and Shabar, I have awarded points to you.

But there is still uncertainty in that:

1. is there a difference between activating 'restriction by user is required' and not doing so for a variable that is derived using an exit function module?

I cannot understand how variables derived using exit can still be restricted by user.

Please help me close this message, thanks!

Sanjay

Variable in area will have no effect on the level unless it's used in the level
