Transportation - Question on Routes thru' weight groups

Hi Sappers.

It appears the weight groups usage for route determination works only in deliveries, not in orders? If so, then potentially, the route will differ in the order and in the delivery which can affect the ATP considering different routes will have different transit times thereby, the delivery date coming up in the order will be unreliable/incorrect?

Is my understanding correct or is there any way around it so that the correct route on the basis of the weight groups does get selected and does not change in the delivery (keeping the delivery type as not allowed for route re-determination)?

Thanks a lot.

I guess usually only one will be used either Route determination without weight group (order) or Route determination with weight group (delivery). If both are used then the route in the order is a proposed route which is replaced with the actual route in the delivery based on weight group. You can control which one to overwrite which on in Define allowed actual route by proposed route, i.e., which actual routes can overwrite which delivery routes or not.

Also remember weight in the Sales Order is determined at item level and at header level in delivery and determination criteria varies.

Thanks, Jagadish, a follow up on it:

I have to keep this simple and decided to use shipping conditions (for LTL, FTL, Rail etc and overwrite the CMR proposed one if need be in the order itself). We won't go in for weight groups determination. However, if we DO NOT define any routes for the determination at the time of delivery (i.e. no routes by weight groups, only in orders), will the route carry into the delivery from the order and then into the shipment? It is not mandatory to define the delivery routes to make the shipments, right? (i.e. in the V_TROLZ02 table) - only those defined in V_TROLZ01 should be good enough to make the shipments? Neither will I be using any proposed routes - simply want the V_TROLZ01 routes to work all through as the differentiation will come in via the Shipping conditions.

Another question - does a route necessarily need to have any transportation connection points? It can simply be Depcty/depZ to dest cty/destZ based on the SC and Transportation group, correct? I don't need to connect cities and we assume that within a state all cities have the same transit time from the origin.

Seem very basic questions but I am essentially a MM person and we don't have any SD/LE on the team yet but this needs to go-live shortly.

Thank you.

Q1. Yes, the route determined in the sales order is carried into delivery. But, if multiple routes exist in the sales order, means for each line item if a different route is determined then split delivery will occur.

Q2. Yes, it is not mandatory to define the delivery routes to make the shipments. Q3. Yes.

Q4. Yes.

Q4. No, unless you are using Transportation planning and have different connection point for shipments to reach the final destination. Means, the shipment might go to certain point and then goes another point before reaching final destination.

Q5. Yes, you can simply have Depcty/depZ to dest cty/destZ based on the SC and Transportation group and a route is determined in the Sales order, which is then carried to delivery (if different routes in sales order then split delivery else single delivery).

You might no need connection point assuming that within state all cities have the same transit time from the the origin.
