It has been decided that one of the companies in our scope will be renamed (change of the legal company name), we are evaluating possibility of reusing existing company code and just changing the name in ECC. Question is whether this is possible, and if yes what are functional/technical consequences of that fact?
Optionally we consider creation of the new company code in ECC with new text description...
Which option is more efficient and less risky?
Hi,
I'm not sure what your doubt is... You are free to change the description of your company code. Creation of a new company code would mean migration of all the business and master data, which, I believe, is not exactly what you want to perform. Just one thing you should keep in mind, that company code description is not time-dependent and, hence, it would apply 'retroactively' to all your reports, even if they are performed for the period when the description was still the old one.
You would have, therefore, to make a remark for auditors in those reports on manual basis.

Eli

Hi
Additionally consider analyzing where used list for Company Code name i.e Forms, so10 Texts etc. if values are maintained here or any hardcoding any where else independent of T001 table will get impacted and end up circulating wrong name to inernal/external parties

If it is only a change in name of the company and not any other characteristics than you can just change the name and it will not have any implications.
