This is for our ABAP friends or whoever has the experience. My client wants to use some Corporate marks to indicate the ID of their company codes. Some of this marks have 3 characters like BCD while some have 4 and 5. I have told them that the standard SAP ID is 4-character, BUKRS. So we cannot go beyond the 4-characters in the BUKRS field. However, from SAP Academy training and projects I have worked on, I have always had 4-character Company Code ID. I would therefore want to know if there is any implication if I use the 3-character ID for some of the Company Codes instead of the standard 4-character ID. Your response as always is appreciated.

Hi YA,
I have observed 3 character company codes being mainatained. I too feel that it shouldnt be of any concern!
Thanks

No thats not the case, as at table level company code is define as max of 4 and minimum of 1. It will not create any problem.
For e.x. in GL account max allowed is 10 digit but SAP best practise is 6 digit. and GL a/c are used every where it has never caused any problem.
Hope this answer your question.
