Repost based on Char Relationships help !

Hi,

I need help with the above function please. I'm doing this in IP but I think it would be equally relevant in BPS.

I have 2 derivations

1. VAT is derived as its an attribute of contract. (so its characteristic relationship of type attribute)

2. Cash date is derived in an exit from Event date and Debtor days.(so its characteristic relationship of type exit)

When doing a repost based on characteristic relationships (after changing master data attributes), the VAT derives properly but I get an error on the cash date derivation.

I'm not sure if its important, but VAT flag is actually in the cube whereas Debtor days is simply looked up from contract master and then used to calculate cash date in the exit.

The characteristic relationship does work properly when simply planning data into the cube, but not on the repost function.

Any help/ideas would be appreciated.

Cheers

sue

Hi,

My derivation is now working better but the new date being derived conflicts with the exist CALWEEK value for the data.

CALWEEK is not in the characteristic derivations as its automatically calculated when the data is saved. So how do I get the CALWEEK to rederive on the repost?

can you put a characteristic relationship of type exit on calweek?

Hi,

No its not possile. If you put CALWEEK as a target in the derivation, the CHECK on the derivation will fail as you cannot derive Generic Time characteristics.

I overcame the problem however by ticking CALWEEK in the Repost with Characteristic Relationships function. ie. even though the function did not suggest that it could be derived, ticking it did not lead to error and in this way the function worked.

Just further FYI, I've found that Exit derivations and Attribute derivations cannot be achieved in a single function that they have to be created separately.

Sue,

Are you using BI-IP or BPS in BI 7.0?

In BPS, I have used characteristic derivation with time characteristic i.e. Fiscal Year and posting period to fiscal year period or vice versa many times and some other stuff so it does work there but have not tried it with BI-IP yet.

Could the calweek derivation issue you might run into is that some years you have 53rd week? Are you using calendar month for fiscal period or are you on a retail / CPG 4-4-5 calendar.

Hi,

I'm using BI-IP. Deriving Fiscal year etc. is no problem but adding CALWEEK as target in a derivation will give an error. My solution was to tick it as derivable in the function even though its not proposed as being derivable.

Hello Sue,

Did you ensure that the Cash Date is not a part of the planning level from which the repost function is being executed?

Also check and see if the characteristic relationship for Cash Date is being triggered for the repost function. You can check this by selecting the level and viewing the various characteristic relationships triggred in the "Characteristic Relationship tab" on the right side of the screen.

Hi Sunil,

Thank you for your reply.

The Forecast Cash date must be in the aggregation level as this is a "repost based on characteristic relationships" and it specifies that ALL infoobjects of the cube must be in the aggregation level for this function to work. If I create this on multiprovider, I can then fool it into thinking that all the objects are there...but then it simply deletes all my data!

I will try some more testing without the Forecast Cash Date in place.
