Data Migration in the New GL

I have a client who has implemented ECC6 as a new client.

They have turned on the New GL and they are updating FAGLFLEX.

They are now looking at using document splitting during their current Fiscal Year.

If they wanted to be able to report on all of their current data through document splitting do they need to run a data migration process or is there an easier way around this?

Should they wait until their next Fiscal Year to implement this?

I am aware that no one in the UK has done an upgrade to ECC6 and used document splitting, all of the implementations have been either new implementations or re-implementations.
