Material Master Description Change

Dear friends,

Client wants the material master "Description" should not be allowed to be changed by the end users while creating PR/PO i.e 'description' should be in grey mode.If absolutely required, it should be allowed thro' MM02 only.We are in ECC 5.

I request the experts to give the solution.

Hello Karthikesan,

When you create PR or PO with material master record, the description will get copied from the material master record, but you can change it. Now for your requirement that no one can change the material description in PR or PO, then you need to set up the screen setting for the material description field as display for Purchase requisition and purchase order.

The cofiguration is available in SPRO -> Mat Managemenet -> Purchasing - > Purchase requisition / Purchase order -> define layout for documents

Just to add on my previous reply, If there are materials which needs to change the description frequently then I dont think it will be good idea to implement this scenario.
