Dear Guru's,

We are planning to upgrade from ECC 5.0(windows2003 and oracle 9.2.) to ECC6.0.(Windows 2003 and oracle 10.2)

In ECC 5.0 is fresh installation and we have installed IMC best practices for US over it. Our functional has activated the BP with minor error.

Now we have to upgrade it to ECC 6.

Request you to share related document other than guides available in marketplace.

you can also send those documents on hemant1.k@tcs.com.

Step by step procedure will be helpful as I dont have any prior upgrade experience.

Thanks in advance.

Don't forget to install a SAP Solution Manager 3.2SP9 or 4.0 system in order to generate the upgrade key.

Dear Markus Döhr ,

Thanks for showing us direction.

I am providing you some more details for the scenario:

We have planned to install Best practices IMC for US on ECC 6.0.

Best Practices IMC for US is available on ECC 6.0. We have also discussed with SAP & they said to install IMC BP for ECC 5., activate it & then upgarde to ECC 6.

Now we are facing problem durinh upgrade.

Is not there any way to retain BP - IMC & upgrade to ECC 6.0 like vendor key option. If yes then how to get vendor key?

As you have said If we delete it and then we can not reinstall as there is no compatible version of BP-IMC for US on ECC 6.0 .

Request you to provide a clear solution for this. You can mail me any relavent material on hemant1.k@tcs.com

In this case I suggest opening an OSS cal under

BC-UPG-ADDON

and ask their, what´s the way to do that. If they don´t have an upgrade CD available (I haven´t found one either) there must be a way to retain your configurations.

Dear All,

We are facing problem upgrading SAP System. We have got stuck at IS_SELECT Phase during Upgrade Prepare Phase.

We have installed Best Practices IMC addon on ECC 5.0 but while upgrading in IS_SELECT phase it is asking for the upgrade patch for BP-IMC, which is not available.

Please suggest how to proceed.

We tried all options but are not able to proceed further without completing this phase.

you need to "delete" it passively and reinstall the new version after the upgrade.

Dear Markus

Thanks for replying to the message.

Dear Master's

I have access to SMP and I already had downloaded upgrade guides and notes.

The point here is, As I am doing upgarde for the first time, I need some document other than in SMP prepared by any one of you while doing upgrade. That will be very helpful.

Awaiting for response.

Thanks in advance.

Upgrades are mostly highly individual - I have made the experience that just following "step-by-step"-guides is more confusing than helping.

I'd suggest

- Copy the to-be-upgraded system to a sandbox that can be rebuilt easily without impacting work

- Start with the central upgrade note and the database note, write down each relevant step and prepare a plan, what to do before the upgrade (e. g. run certain programs, apply notes etc.) and what to do AFTER the upgrade. Since this is very individual for each system depending on the components/modules implemented you need decide on your own what is necessary to do and what you can safely omit (to give an example see note 865142, you will only need that note that if you use customer specific EDI fields).

- Test the database upgrade - that will be the most critical part in sense of necessary Oracle patches for Oracle 10 (well, on Windows it's a bit easier)

- The upgrade guides are very good - they are basically kind of step-by-step procedure, just don't forget to "mix in" the relevant parts of the central upgrade note(s).

There's no better training than "doing it"

Keep us posted if you have specific problems.

without access to notes you won't be able to do the upgrade. AddOns as well as the upgrade itself need passwords, that are stored in notes (on the SMP).

Start with the official upgrade guide and read the upgrade note attentively, usually all information, that can be found, is in there.
