Where to being with the DCOM connector

Hi can someone point me to a step-by-step guide that will tell me where to begin with teh DCOM connector.

I'm trying to write a VB program that creates a new transport and store the returned transportID and display it in the VB program?

Is DCOM the way to go or is there a easier way of doing with RFC?
