Warehouse Management Putaway strategy

Hello,

I have a question regarding WM Putaway strategy.

I am using custom functionality for WM. My FG parts gets labeled by a serial number which has a prefix to identify the production order. My shipping storage location has WM Bins. When I try to transfer the parts from WIP to Shipping Sloc, system will propose which bins needs to be selected. The usual strategy is next empty bin.

Now I have a requirement that while doing putaway, system should check the prefix on my serial number and the part number for that serial number (both available in custom table) and suggest only that Bin which does not have same combination of Production order and part number.

For Eg - I have Bin B1 in my warehouse. This Bin has one box which has serial number with prefix P1 and part number is M1. Now I want to do putaway for same part M1 but with different prefix P2. In this case I dont want system to propose B1 since it already has P1M1 combination. It should propose next empty bin. But if my new serial number also has part M1 and prefix P1 then system can propose B1. Only thing is GR date will not be updated which is fine.

Basically I don't want system to propose a bin which already has same part number and serial number prefix combination for which I am doing putaway.

I can implement this with my custom functionality but I don't have much idea about standard WM functionality so I would like to understand is it possible to implement this requirement in standard. I think Storage Unit concept can be used but I am not very clear about it. Any input will be really helpful.

Thanks.

you want standard WM to look into your Z-table? How should that be possible without further development?

If you use next empty bin it will go to an empty bin and not mix any stock in the first place. From what you are describing you will need to write a custom put away strategy. Or you could use a user exit to exclude bins that SAP has suggested.
