Deactivation of Engineering Change Management for Phrases

Former Member

Dear Team,

As you know, while performing the DG filling the phrase text of PSN will get updated.

Here, currently the complaint from user is that, at each filling the phrase is getting updated which is fine but this is getting updated with Change Number.

e.g. As shown below, phrase got updated yesterday as a result of DG filling but if we look at phrase item table, it's getting updated with Change Number

Earlier this was not the case. I have done the investigation but so far didn't found a cause why change number are getting generated.

However, Can you please advice how we can disable this?

Thanking You,

Regards,

Amol Joshi

Dear Amol

During the filling of DG master you can "specify" a change number (or activate the use of change numbers). If you do so: this number is then (according to my knowledge) as well used in the "phrase" environment as DG filling generates new phrases (and if needed during update of phrases).

Therefore: check e.g. https://help.sap.com/saphelp_erp60_sp/helpdata/en/b5/26bf53d25ab64ce10000000a174cb4/content.htm

Here SAP documentation is providing hint as. "In the Dangerous Goods Management menu, choose ToolsDangerous Goods Master FillingStart Filling . A screen for selecting data appears"

I can not 100% remember the design of the "screen" which is shown but I would assume you have the option to "activate" the use of change numbers.

So guess one. If you do manual filling. may be selection parameters are "not the best"

So guess two: you can use the "DG filling" report as a "job" (in the night). But to do so: you will as well specify some data to be used. Once again: May be "change numbers" are "activated" to be used

Have a look may be here: https://archive.sap.com/discussions/thread/1103546

From EHS point of view. anything is fine, Your system is up and running (and provides useful results). The "change number" use (in the phrases) should have no effect on EHS as such. BUT you must check your "print routines" in SAP SD (to print DG data). If you have not assumed that "change numbers" are in place: your print routine will not fetch (potentially) the right data)

C.B.

PS: in context of

"Earlier this was not the case. I have done the investigation but so far didn't found a cause why change number are getting generated."

Change numbers are prepared by you in the system. They are not used "by default" in the EHS processes. You must "actively" use them (e.g. in CG02/CG02BD) to maintain data.

PPS: Check blog as: https://blogs.sap.com/2014/03/15/about-use-of-change-numbers-in-sap-ehs-management-classic/

ONLY USE CHANGE NUMBERS IF THERE IS NO OTHER OPTION: The use of change number is "so tricky" (and not easy to explain to end users). Even support might have issues
